OVERVIEW OF THE 1920s
The jazz age, also known as the roaring twenties was a time of modern ideas and recovery from World War 1. In the 1920s, the consumption, possession and selling of alcohol was illegal; known as prohibition. Due to these strict and outrageous restrictions, organized crime increased. Jazz music and baseball swept the nation, defining the American culture we recognize today. Flappers changed the roles of women and influenced fashion, nightlife and relationships. F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway were major writers of the 20s who tell us about the lifestyle and excess of the era. This website includes information about some of the most iconic parts of the roaring twenties and the impact it had on the American culture (‘Roaring Twenties”).
